WHAT IS VALIDATION?

What you need to know to participate in an assessment validation

Quick tip

What is the difference between validation and moderation?

An assessment tool is validated before, during or after an assessment is run using input from a number of sources. Moderation is one of those sources.

Moderation is the activity of assessors and other stakeholders discussing an assessment instrument (or process) to arrive at a better technique.

Validation is the formal activity - moderation is an ongoing activity.

Why do we need to validate?

a.     compliance for registered training organisations

b.     as an element of an organisation’s continuous improvement process

c.      to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the assessment process, methods and products

d.     as a means of professional development for trainers and assessors

e.     provide feedback and insight into assessment practices

f.      maintain assessor currency.
